Proprietary Process - The Secret Behind ON THE ROAD & ON THE WATER

Our approach to building custom interactive e-learning and marketing presentations is guided by our unique, proprietary S5 process, which ensures quality products created to our customers’ satisfaction without extensive reworking or miscommunication.

 

Step 1 Proposal: Define needs and estimate cost

To define the requirements for your presentation, an initial consultation and demonstration will be provided at our office or yours. During the consultation, we will ask many questions to establish our understanding of your project, its intended audience, and your budget. We will discuss with you the goals of the presentation, how its content will be obtained, and the format(s) in which it is to be delivered (such as via Internet, CD-ROM, USB Flash Drive, or DVD), as well as technical options, graphic standards, and Learning Management System (LMS) requirements

We will then prepare a written proposal that covers the content, creative approach, schedule, cost, and terms and conditions of the project. The consultation and proposal are generally provided without charge.

Once we receive your approval of the proposal, we will appoint a project manager to act as your liaison and schedule a kick-off meeting. At the meeting, a basic presentation map will be reviewed and agreed upon, and data-gathering tasks will be assigned (if necessary).

Step 2 Creative: Research, script writing, graphic design concepts

The creative stage will involve up to three areas: research, scriptwriting, and graphic design. Our associates will call upon years of knowledge and perspective as they help you best articulate the message to be delivered. We place a high priority on understanding the client’s content in order to produce a satisfactory end product. Thus, when developing a compliance training presentation, the creative team may study the Federal Register and other guides to regulations before drafting the script. This process is consultative, as we do not simply convert clients’ existing content into another format.

Graphic design is an essential component of all presentations. After discussing your needs and preferences, our artists will develop a graphic look for your presentation (subject to your approval). Our artists specialize in making your images look great on computer screens. We frequently work with our clients’ design departments and follow corporate brand standards where mandated. The creative work will form part of the prototype reviewed in Step 3.

Step 3 Prototype: Test navigation and capture content

The prototype is a detailed mock-up of the product that demonstrates the navigation scheme, flow, content, and graphic design developed by the creative team. Prototypes are generally black and white on-screen presentations, with placeholders for graphics, animations, interviews, videos, and other features to be incorporated during production.

At a prototype review meeting, the script is read aloud while the prototype is being shown, making it easy to evaluate both the visual and audio content simultaneously. This enables the client’s representatives to hear, see, and experience the core elements of a course or presentation before it is produced, and allows the Duthie Learning staff to incorporate requests for changes, adjustments, or enhancements during the review almost instantly, with the benefit of immediate context. The prototype review meeting also facilitates the client’s ability to pursue consensus on policy issues and content without having to schedule additional meetings or accommodate other delays.

Prototype reviews may be conducted at your location or via a web-conference.

If significant changes in content or treatment are requested, a revised cost estimate will be submitted to you for approval. Upon approval of the prototype, script, and graphic look, production will begin.

Step 4 Production

Building upon the prototype, the production team will insert images, graphics, and animations into the presentation, as well as fine-tuning the technical components of the project. If interviews of customers or executives are to be part of the final content, they are conducted and transcribed during this stage. Professional talent will be contracted to provide voiceovers, and the recordings will be digitized and inserted into the appropriate places.

The end result of production will be what is called the “proof.” The staff of Duthie Learning will thoroughly edit, test, and review the proof for errors.

Step 5 Acceptance

A proof review meeting will be held, during which the client will hear, see, and experience the finished presentation. Minor adjustments may still be made at this time. A master CD-ROM or test website will be provided for the client’s internal review and testing.  Upon acceptance, a “gold master” will be produced and delivered to the client or website host.
