Today we saw the new bridge that replaces the Eggers Ferry Bridge nearing completion. We have crossed the 70 year old bridge with its narrow lanes many times each year to get to the Katy Leigh. This post is an recent interview with Tom Ray, who had an incident on his 42 ft Cruisers Yacht, on May 17, 2015 during a cruise on the Tenn-Tom Waterway. While underway all the electronics at the helm suddenly went dead. The only way to continue navigation was his compass and a paper chartbook.

On May 9, 2013 a bass boater team of two was heading north on Kentucky Lake and instead of passing under the main channel of the Eggers Ferry Bridge the operator elected to go under one of the narrower spans west of the main channel. This photo shows a Krogen Manatee trawler at anchor just above the I-24 bridge around 2008. Great Loopers can save 19 miles by waiting at the Kentucky Lock vs. going 19 miles further to the Barkley Lock. There is no place to anchor at the Barkley Lock as the current has swept the bottom clean..

On Sunday April 15th, Bob and Mavis with two friends needed to return to Kenlake Marina from Green Turtle Bay Marina. The weather forecasters had issued a Wind Advisory. We summarized the engine and took the Katy Leigh out the past Sunday and got a good look at the gap in the bridge from the north side. In looking through the gap it occurred to me that this view has never been possible until now. The bridge was built 77 years ago in 1935 to cross the Tennessee River.

On this past Friday, Sept 30 there was a terrible boating accident on the Tennessee -Tombigee Waterway at mile 317. A 1979 43ft Defever, MOONSTRUCK, capsized and sank behind a tow. This year the water level in Kentucky Lake, (Tennessee River) hit an all time high since the Kentucky Lake dam was built in the 1940's. The top of the dam is at 375 ft above sea level.
