Day 10 Jan 21 Parker AZ, Buckskin Mountain State Park
This was “take a hike” day. We went on a 3 mile hike to the old abandoned mines in the hills East of the park. We climbed a total of 908 ft during the hike according to our GPS with a maximum elevation of 620 ft and a minimum of 350 ft. I used the GPS track file to plot a profile of the hike from which I could determine a climb of 908 ft. (see plot). The mines were little more than small holes in the rock. It is doubtful that much copper was ever taken out of the hills here. The desert vegetation and views over the Colorado River and mountains made the hike worthwhile. The photo shows just how rugged this country is. It is hard to image mules dragging ore out of this terrain.
