You are sending a link to... Feb 12 Day 23, Lion Country Safari
Another cold, rainy day in Florida until noon when it cleared up and the sun came out. I spent the time checking email and got an idea from one. For the past 4 years we have never named the Winnebago View. We can name it the R/V Katy Leigh to go along with the M/V Katy Leigh. After lunch it was time to visit Lion Country Safari. This zoo dates back to the 60's and is well done but is still a zoo. It stretches the imagination to believe you are on a safari. We drove through the double gates both of which stood open with cattle crossings being the only security. The animals are fed beside the roads so they are used to cars and pretty much ignore them. It is tough to get great pictures without fences and cars in them. The most disappointing section was the lions which were surrounded by wire fences making it very difficult to see these animals. In the afternoon they were all sleeping on a bench. We did see lots of ostrich, emu, tortoise, llamas, giraffes, rhinoceros, and various birds. What I really liked about the park is the well kept gardens and how little commercialism is present as compared to the Orlando theme parks. We will take our second loop through the park tomorrow and then head east to Lake Okeechobee.
